Mrs. SMith’s 4th Grade TAG

The students in the TAG self-contained 4th grade class come from all of the elementary schools in the Bend LaPine district.  They bring with them their diverse family backgrounds and many different cultures.  Because they are identified as TAG, they also share many personality strengths and challenges.  We work hard on making new friends, learning to have positive social skills, and how to share ideas working in a group. And as 4th graders we all need to get organized so that our work comes in on time, no procrastination.

Like other 4th grades we do reading, math, spelling, writing, lots of science and art.  Then we explore Lewis and Clark, exploration, Westward Migration and Oregon history.  But because we are so curious, we have a chance to answer their bigger questions looking deeper into concepts.  We also have many opportunities to develop our computer skills while doing research and creating projects. Many projects are completely paperless.

So how are we different?  We are TAG all day, every day.  We can work at our own rate and level exploring new ideas going farther and faster and deeper.

Knowledge is our beginning and the spark to learn is their own imagination.

Welcome to our classroom.  During the school year

2012-2013we will be studying Earth Science and looking at the ecosystems of Central Oregon.  We will experience many new ways of looking at life on Earth, water and the solar system our Earth inhabits. The pictures attached are of previous years attending Hancock Field Station and Cascade Science Station.  Our trips this year include Newberry National Monument & Tumalo Watershed at Tumalo Creek.
