I teach 8th grade Advanced Language Arts and Social Studies.  This means we study reading, writing, speaking, listening, and understanding in one part of our Block class, and we study American History in the other part.  Sometimes we integrate, but mostly we work hard on everything and try to figure out what relevance our studies have to our lives now and to our futures.  My basic philosophy is that no day is wasted when you have done something creative during it.

Curriculum:

Language Arts-- Reading consists primarily of weekly independent reading, weekly reading comprehension passages with questions,weekly vocabulary development, and American short stories.  Writing emphasis is on persuasive and research with MLA parenthetical citations.

American History: post Revolution through World War Two. (The Oregon 8th grade curriculum ends at 1900, but the advanced class presses on.)
